for release no.4 sudden drop enlisted the talents of russian based recording artist & dj tripmastaz, who has been producing for the likes of morris audio and most noticeably dj sneaks magnetic recordings imprint since 2004. with each release his sound seems to get more defined and mature and our attention which seriously pricked when we first heard his tracks being played on jus-eds radio show. we quickly got in touch and asked for some tracks. first up is >utilized stock sounds<, originally produced in 2003 this melancholic slab of deep techno deservedly finally sees the light of day with a grimy lo-fi feel and enough dance floor nous to work the floor admirably. flip side track >botinko dub< injects a big, cavernous bass line and razor sharp hats n snares.

in fact, >in a hole<, the a-side of their latest 12 inch, is even more dream-steeped than its predecessors. relying on vintage (and in some cases, home made) gear, simon and tsai have constructed a song that is syrupy in pace. darkened tones mingle with floating percussion and vocals processed to nearly melancholic depths. >cant feel my knees< picks up the tempo, and feels slightly sunnier in comparison (>perhaps a result of practicing for the first time in a place with windows<, according to simon), with rippling keys that give way to an open, spacious sigh and an almost playful interlude of warmth and bass punctuations. the two have said theyre interested in the meeting point of house and noise, and thats particularly apparent on the two remixes that appear here. >in a hole dub< is slower, more bare-boned and ghostlier than the track from which its derived, while >cant feel my knees dub< is filled with white noise emissions and hissing electro shocks.

the aliens dropped their first tune >exterminate< and >their here< to critical acclaim setting the dub step forums and dance floors alight. the guys now come with their second release and drop two brutal dub step bass heavy steppers on us. there is a lot of chatter about who the aliens are with names of a number of top dubstep artists in the frame. however it doesnt really matter who is behind this release as the music clearly speaks for itself. these new tunes have been causing chaos on the dance floor with their destructive basslines and nasty switches and being supported by the cream of the dub step scene including kromestar, skream, n type, hatcha, walsh, f1 and the aliens.

with age comes maturity, or that is at least what one would normaly think. together the three men (jin choi, walker barnard & tolga fidan) associated with private golds second release, the >i m just the rain< ep, clock in at over 100 years… and yet this release is all thrusting crotches and wriggling teen lust man-booties. only kidding, the songs on this release are nothing if not mature. sure the aforementioned sex is there. in the cooing vocals, stompy bass and 60s psych of the contrapuntal guitar of the eponymous >i m just the rain< or in the jimmy edgar-like funk and grind of >revolution for the lovers<.

label bosses are back in tandem for the sixth release on micropunto: wine ep, which also marks the beginning of micropunto schallplattens vinyl era. wine ep started as a back to back game after a spillage incident. ikkaku and d-gelo started producing two separate tracks in their respective stations and every half hour they swapped seats, building the tracks as they went along. the result is this musical experiment that sets the trend for all things to come from the micropunto clan. they spilled wine on me kicks in with a deep lead stab from the catacombs. the elements appear on the scene in a stride to resurface. it goes up then down, left, rigth, it gets dubby, then back in your face. in i spilled wine the beat unfolds steadily like a bulldozer coming up to the surface in search of the true sound. next we meet the preacher. with a subtle housy piano lead he puts us in the right track, reminding us that the dance floor is made of sand and we are on the rivers bank. listen to the flow. lord techno, you are my music. originally inspired from a dub tune featuring ras ajay from the spaceship sound crew in london,dubwine closes the triangle with a huge dub flare. fat subsonic bass and broad stabs make this track a serious contender on the dub techno charts. its the producers blink of respect to the reggae culture that has inspired them all through the years, hence the vinyl release.

oliver hos label wires returns soon with the third installment, >nothing ep< by raudive. this release sees oliver pushing the raudive sound into a darker area featuring industrial influences within the techno grooves. the ep starts off with >shiver<, featuring an organ drone overlaid with bursts of resonance and feedback, with the repeated vocal phrase, >the sun sets inside you<. next comes >>nothing<. a strange wood block sound rides over the heavy groove, with synth stabs and echoing vocal sounds, it is relentless and hypnotic. we continue with >sigil<, the combination of monotone bass and synth stabs with the strange primal moan produce a creepy groove, - gothic techno maybe... finally we have >dial<. the last track finishes the ep off with heavy drones and white noise feedback, bringing to mind the relentless tones of lou reeds metal machine music.

tony ollivierra begins 2011 by getting down with the machine sound. bordering on acid-funk, this ep really gets it shakin. the title track jericho, reeks of the latter days of disco with a deep bass line that fades in and takes control of the party. a warm synth chord then kicks in along with some strings which build up to a peak time climax. nag champa captures a deep and surreal groove with a sweet aromatic feel that definitely is burning. the dark bass line entangles the listener in a sensual moment while a resonant synth riff tops it off. on the flip, midi aura begins with an uncompromising synth bass line that does not quit. the sequence bubbles onward and a thick chord sweeps through the arrangement opening up into a placid apex of harmony. the aura of this midi is feel good all the way. lastly jack box, another acid track that works the cutoff and resonance into a climax of delightful poly rhythm and melody. jericho will be a very limited vinyl press and will be the final project on the ibex music label. keep your ears open for his next label venture which will be introduced this summer.

the first immerse release of 2011 sees the label taking on a fresh approach while retaining the same atmospherics that have made it an essential fixture in the bristol music canon. outboxx are made up of jacob martin and matt lambert, and their sound is rooted in groovy, analogue house music. with an emphasis on jamming, theres a loose, live feel to these tracks that has an instant appeal but drags you deeper with each listen. >kate libby< kicks off on a swung beat and warm pads, before dropping down to p-funk bass and sparse synth flourishes. >berties groove< places jazzy rhodes playing at the front of the mix with a classic drum machine workout ticking away in the background. this is soulful, authentic house music with not a clinical midi pattern in earshot. despite coming from a different angle, the outboxx tracks slip neatly into the immerse legacy thus far, pointing the way for a year filled with more of the spacious, haunting club music the label has become renowned for.

after the brilliant work with tigerlily on the digitaline track >say so<, gregorythme teamed up again with the lovely singer and created another epic masterpiece. >no time no space< has the potencial to become one of this years big anthems, with tigerlilys great voice, the catchy melody and the unbelievable synthline staying in your head for a long time! kalabrese and lee jones both kept the epic feeling of the original. kalabrese added his unique funk and kind of a caribic touch to it. imagine a lonely beach with nothing else to do as watching the stars out there. lee reworked tigerlilys voice, combined it with a massive bass and takes it a step darker into the night, made for dancefloors and big soundsystems!

its been 2 years since benny rodrigues last release on be as one and since then, the young dutch producer has pushed forward his career, both in the studio and in the dj booth. having remixed people like josh wink, dj pierre, justice, spirit catcher to name just some and released on ovum, poker flat, figure, klockworks, with a busy dj schedule in clubs as berghain or rex, at his young age benny is clearly a well respected artist. benny rodrigues interpretation of acid house takes the form of i like acid, and surely it sounds classic! acid synth madness like in the old days but with an updated touch to rock the floors in 2011. choice hypnotic appeal will not get unnoticed on the floor, once again a track that finds its strenght in the basic structure of its arrangement, effective drums patterns with a freakish top line that carry the track into peak time. steve rachmad remixes as sterac are always a treat, and here the techno legend doesnt fail to impress once again with his take on bennys i like acid. snares, hi-hats, rides and bass, all arranged to build up to a melodic and emotional breakthru, dancefloor bliss for the detroit techno heads. to close this amazing package, germanys own mike dehnert brings his trademark sound to be as one in the form of his remix of i like acid. a tune that finds its perfect habitat in dark, smokey and sweaty rooms with massive sound systems.

the copenhagen duo james braun & dan m have slammed out a dark & drivingdebut ep on jackoff records. berlin based joel alter takes it down a notchwith a deep & dry version on the flip and then bristols ever the risingstar october breaks all the rules with his signature bass heavy groove.this is an action packed quality release that fits in the bags of all true.

sex tags mania with pyramide studio in frankfurt - fully effusive house music sessions. a-side tracing 15 minutes of live recorded non-edited organ house with synth, cowbell and tape-echo solos. this is very close to what can be called an organ-house-anthem for the lovers. b-side with “next day version” - 10 min. drum-tracking house, live synth bass and echoed percussions. all co-whirling in and out of triggered sync-patterns. 300 copies limited!

a1: buch - trippy house track. one for the club, heavy drums and evolving synths. main synth line is hypnotic but driving. killer track!
b1: hit me slowly - hit me slowly takes the tempo down from the a side, keeping the hypnotic house vibes going. a slow groover with an awesome bass line. got that outer space feel!
b2: argo - more of a traditional house tempo on this one. focused on the deep popping bass line. lots going on around but the bass is what makes this stand out. cool little samples echo all over. the synth hook adds the hypnotic element to tie it in with the other tracks on the ep. big, big track!

this killer ep from samuel dan starts as it means to go on with the massive sample loops, and has been custom-made to keep those hands in the air. an infectious, bouncing bassline ebbs and flows through the track, while the tight percussion will keep those feet pounding the floor. octad and phiorio take the controls for the third track. their remix of wake up call is stripped down and funked up. like a prime larry levan cut, funk, disco and house collide but without the mix ever becoming cluttered. the elements are used sparingly and to devastating effect. last but not lease we get samuels original mix in which the brass instruments take centre stage, with trumpets heralding deep bass grooves. they are going to be rocking this one down in the treme. bring on the summer! to finish off this ep in style, heres the floor-filling back home. its immense builds and eminently catchy hooks are guaranteed to spread smiles across the dancefloor like a disease.

the three tracks for this release go through a wide range of our sound. >cyclone< by samuel dan and feygin is a throwback to the way dirtybird records sounded back in 2006, raw and fun with big drums. but >cyclone< sounds amazing compared to the sound quality of some of those old records we all love, a definite update to the old db vibe. b-jus >babbel net< is his follow-up appearance to last years bomb track >my sneakers< that all of us played 1000 times. this is more in the smooth 808 style of dirtybird while still giving you some punch and melody. this record works really well for me and this groove crossover into a house set no problem. last but not least is maelstroms >you play<. this is a real monster, not so much for the house heads but instead for those of you who like to cross genres and explore the bass regions during your sets. definitely not your friendly deep house record this one is a real db banger in the tradition of big dirty bass we love here in san francisco.

kicking off 2011 with a killer e.p. is our favourite artist art bleek featuring a number of remixes from the new art supplies album released on loungin this month plus some fresh cuts exclusive to this release. starting the e.p. is a floor filling remix of clap your hands by our own trevor loveys. the original has been out for a few months in the blogosphere and has been picking up some heavy props. next up is hold it (a little longer) where art shows off his true talent of the master of the musical groove with a rolling bass and a choppup vocal lick to keep the party rocking. flip over to side b and you would be excused if you thought someone had swapped the record out for a disco classic. with vox by noelle scaggs and a harmony that nile rodgers would be proud of arthur creates a boogie classic that is very much flavour of the moment. following on is an exclusive remix of the hunt dance featuring the unmistakable voice of ursula rucker. the original on art supplies has had such amazing reactions that we all thought it would be hard to better it, but again arthur has done it delivering a groover for the heads. finally is right on featuring l.as finest charlie sputnik. art delivers a more techy grove to this classic which is a sound he is becoming more recognised for which contrasts so will with charlies trademark smooth vocals.

cadenzas latest offering comes from swiss german duo laurent bovey & gregory poncet, more commonly known as digitaline. firm family within cadenzas realm of artists, digitalines latest >up and down my spine< ep is their fourth contribution to the increasingly impressive cadenza catalogue of experimental and meticulously produced electronic soundscapes. deep and chugging grooves, atmospheric spheres and industrial synth patterns are digitalines forté. up and down my spine is no exception to their uncompromising rule. a-side africa makes its grand entrance with a deliriously deep bass line belting from underneath its hazy atmosphere and pouncing crisply into cutting hi-hats and sweeping snares. the jerky rhythmic groove is determined from its first steps and contrasts impeccably with the sensual and stripped down vocal from diaraby nene by oumou sangaré. trickling over the top of a fierce and bouncing violin melody, the listener is catapulted into a woven cultural journey. africa is an encapsulating house track thats plethora of influences and appeal span worldwide. on the flip, the duos >shivers< is percussive and a clear companion for its counterpart, >africa<. made to sit effortlessly together, the same potion of heavy kicks, tribal essences and impeccable arrangement follow from one side to the other, coaxing our minds and bodies into digitalines intricate musical world

for his latest musical offering kupper offers up two versions of the superb >bloom< a deep and melodic slice of underground house. warm filtered keys, rich bass, percussive riffs and old school drums come together to create a compelling piece of house with a laid back vibe on the original. the >jazz mix< follows the lines of the original version with the addition of some perfectly placed jazz guitar parts to lend a further musical note. wave music is well known for its eclectic musical output, ranging from tough techno, to quality electronica and underground house. with this latest release with eric kupper they have proved once again that whatever they do put out, its always of the highest quality.

for release no.4 sudden drop enlisted the talents of russian based recording artist & dj tripmastaz, who has been producing for the likes of morris audio and most noticeably dj sneaks magnetic recordings imprint since 2004. with each release his sound seems to get more defined and mature and our attention which seriously pricked when we first heard his tracks being played on jus-eds radio show. we quickly got in touch and asked for some tracks. first up is >utilized stock sounds<, originally produced in 2003 this melancholic slab of deep techno deservedly finally sees the light of day with a grimy lo-fi feel and enough dance floor nous to work the floor admirably. flip side track >botinko dub< injects a big, cavernous bass line and razor sharp hats n snares.

still above the clouds, team skylevel picks up a fellow pilot and drops a package that is all about the raw essence. a1 is a thrilling jazz funk onslaught that hits you hard right from the beginning. an energetic uptempo groove meets the most wicked guitar patterns, teasing with beautiful melody fragments while clearly focusing on its irresistable rhythm section. no jazz on b1, but an uncompromising barebone funk stomper of the highest order that locks you in a cell made of drums and bass holding the promise that you wont find >disco< within a five mile radius. b2 obviously has to reduce the heat and takes you on a ride through the swampy mississippi delta of the early seventies, telling you a truly mystic sunflower county story you might not have heard by now

release number two for babaloo and they welcome a young italian producer who, with his bevy of releases for the likes of saved, noir, rawthentic, rebirth and snatch, is on a blistering run of form. >broken hearts< is a trademark, no nonsense party anthem. wickedly funky, its percussive nature and bottom heavy bassline are yearning for the summer floors. on remix duty and fresh from recently giving away the whole of his brand new artist album >love=evolution< or free, peru resident jay haze turns in a beautifully spooky and sparse reworking. the second remix on the package comes from the germany duo, jacuzzi boys. renowned for their work on cecille, off and kindisch, the duo once again demonstrate their deeper credentials by wrapping >broken hearts< in layers of warm bass and smooth synth.
